ST. ANDROID, a six-minute animated short film, is about Norman who sits at the bedside of his terminally ill wife Helen – hoping for a word from her before she dies. His wish seems to
stay unfulfilled as the highly technilogical advanced bed informs him about Helen‘s approaching death. As a pastoral care, an android preacher is provided to Norman, offering him all sorts of spiritual guidances. Desperately, he accepts the robotic counceling, but it so distracted by the automated procedure that he eventually misses his wife’s death.

I was tasked to design and animate the title sequence as well as some UI screens appearing in the film. My goal was to underline the film’s satirical tragedy and to point out the peril of the progressive development of technology and artificial intelligence missing any kind of empathy and humanness.
In the title sequence, traditional, obsolete but human religion gets brazenly overwritten by cold, modern technology: robotic arms mount the word droid – made of little roboters itself – on an old-looking leather-clad book that only has the faded letters St. Andr... on it.
